Welcome to Working Wanderlust, where I combine my passion for travel and my experiences as a young executive, to offer advice to succeed in your career and travel the world. I’m here to help you navigate your career and cross off your bucket list by providing tips, advice, and strategies to succeed in the workplace and to plan amazing trips to your dream destinations.
I finally listened to my husband and decided to create my little corner of the internet (You won, babe. You won.). A few years ago, we thought we were living the jet-setter lifestyle by taking a one-hour flight from our hometown to Disneyland a few times a year, while working at a warehouse store and as an office assistant. After watching a few of my friends trot off to Brazil, Kenya, Thailand, and a few European countries, I started to ask myself why can’t I travel internationally? Then, I realized that the money we spent going to Disneyland could have paid for an adventure around France or an all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean! We took our first international trip to Mexico in 2015, and we haven’t slowed down yet.
In the last few years, we’ve traveled around the world while maintaining full-time desk jobs and going to school part-time. We had to shift our priorities from buying clothes and video games to saving our pennies towards our trips (and by using credit cards the smart way…). I’ve also learned a thing or two along my path to becoming an executive in state government. I’ve worked my way up from that office assistant job to becoming a mid-level manager by the time I was 30. I want to share my journey in hopes of inspiring other young women leaders to pursue their career goals, overcome obstacles, and to own their seat at the infamous “table”.
I started this blog to inspire you to pursue your career, without giving up your personal passions like traveling. It does not take quitting your job or taking a leave of absence to explore the world (but kudos if you did). All you need is the right inspiration and some organizational skills to spend those hard-earned vacation hours on something fun and memorable. It also does not take forfeiting your identity to climb the corporate ladder and become the boss you were meant to be.
